Mission Statement
The Autism Society of Miami-Dade Florida is a non-profit, tax-exempt chapter of the Autism Society of America serving Miami-Dade County.
We are dedicated to building bridges throughout our community by
supporting, advocating, educating, networking and providing hope for
people affected by autism and related disorders of communication and behavior. Everyone interested in furthering these goals is welcome to join this group of caring parents, caregivers, professionals, and students.
Goals
• To empower parents to advocate for and become more involved in
their child’s needs.
• To educate the general public about autism.
• To serve as a support group for parents/caregivers and professionals.
• To provide information to parents and professionals regarding the
diagnosis, education and general welfare of the person with autism
• To provide social opportunities for those with autism and their
families through picnics, parties and other community activities.
2006-2007 Accomplishments • Held a major fundraising and awareness event “Hit the Road
for Autism” and raised $12,000
• Funds raised at the event we used to send families to Tallahassee
for Autism Awareness Day
• Participated in the Autism Speaks Walk and raised $5,000 for
Autism Speaks for research
• Held 5 General Membership Meetings
• Held 2 Social Events – Dandy Bear and Chuck E Cheese
• Held our Annual Holiday Party at Tropical Park
• Collaborated with UM-NSU CARD on the Annual End of
the Year Beach Party
• Participated in the annual CARD Conference
• Presented many Dade County Schools during Autism Awareness Month
• Participated in several local Disability Fairs to promote autism awareness
• Provided dozens of local high school students with community service hours.
